TIANJIN, Nov. 4(Xinhuanet)-- Hong Kong (HK) Secretary for Justice Wong Yan-lung said here Friday he needs full support of the central government to fulfil his duties
Wong, 41, who was just appointed HK Secretary for Justice two weeks ago, replacing Elsie Leung Oi-sie, made the remarks at a Chinese lawyer's forum held in north China's port city of Tianjin.
Wong said he is working hard to assist the HK Special Administrative Region (SAR) government to maintain the legal system in order to enable HK citizens to continue to enjoy the rights and living style safeguarded by the Basic Law.
HK's economic prosperity can not be separated from a sound legal environment, he said.
To fulfil his tasks and duties, he truly needs the full supportof the central government, the HKSAR government and his colleaguesat the Department of Justice, Wong said.
He stated that it is very important for the political and judicial departments of HK and the mainland to enhance understanding and implement the policy of "one country, two systems." Enditem
