MACAO, Nov. 30(Xinhuanet)-- Macao media Wednesday hailed the visit to the special administrative region by Chinese taikonauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng and leading engineers of Shenzhou-6, China's second manned space mission.
All the eight local Chinese newspapers dedicated pages to the visit, hoping it will boost the Macao people's interests in space technology and their patriotism.
"Space duo to land in Macao," reads the headline of an article of the Macao Daily News, the leading local Chinese newspaper.
The newspaper previewed the main schedule of the space delegation during its three-day tour and called on residents to use public transport services to shun the traffic problems which might be caused by the space heat.
The newspaper report also said all the tickets for a gala hosted in honor of the Shenzhou-6 delegation by the government were sold out within one hour on Tuesday.
The report eulogized the team's Hong Kong visit prior to the Macao one, dubbing the space duo a scorching tornado.
Va Kio, another Chinese newspaper, reported that the space delegation will meet all walks of the social life in Macao and will share their experience in the space with the Macao people.
The newspaper report said the visit will hopefully offer a good opportunity for the Macao youth to enlarge their knowledge on space technology.
Tai Chung, another Chinese newspaper, headlined the front page on the visit.
It hailed in an editorial that the completion of the space mission was"another milestone" in the history of the development of China's space technology.
The success was the indicator of the smooth proceeding of China's space plan, said the editorial.
The success will also help boost China's development in sectors of economy, education and science, it added.
The editorial said the visit by the space team will fuel Macao people's confidence and their love for the country.
The 30-strong delegation, including the astronauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng, arrived here on Wednesday noon after concluding its four-day tour in Hong Kong.
While in Macao, the delegation is to meet local students, to give science presentations and to attend a grand evening gala, hosted by the government of Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
Fei Junlong, 40, and Nie Haisheng, 41, blasted off on Oct. 12 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
The Shenzhou-6 orbited the earth at 7.9 km per second at an altitude of 343 km. It flew 3.25 million km in space during the five-day tour, which was wrapped up on Oct. 17.
Fei and Nie conducted a series of unprecedented experiments on the spacecraft, including maneuvers between the orbital and re-entry capsules, taking on and off space suits, using a space toilet and a blood pressure self-test that were absent in the previous Shenzhou-5 mission.
China's maiden space flight in 2003, conducted by astronaut Yang Liwei, made the nation the third to put human into space following Russia and the United States. Enditem
