HONG KONG, Jan 11 (AP) -- Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou has penned the theme song for the upcoming Jet Li movie "Fearless" -- an upbeat rock song by the same name that features Chou singing in Chinese opera style with a high-pitched voice.
The song, which was released earlier this week, is a fast-paced rock composition, with Chou singing in a female-like voice as an electric guitar plays in the background.
"Meeting Jet Li himself greatly inspired me to write this song," Chou said in a recorded introduction to the song.
Chou, a big fan of Li who once said he aspires to become the "Jet Li of music," reportedly wasn't paid for the song.
Li has been enthusiastic about the collaboration with Chou.
"This is what's great -- only two people working together can create a new spark," he said at a recent joint appearance with Chou. Li said he would be willing to appear in one of Chou's music videos for free.
"I don't think I can sing as fast as he does no matter how I practice. I'm tone deaf, so I don't have the confidence to launch a music career," Li said of his singing abilities. It's common for Chinese-speaking stars to juggle singing and acting careers.
"Fearless" is the story of Chinese kung fu fighter Huo Yuanjia.
Chou, currently one of the Chinese pop world's biggest acts, has said he wants to achieve the cross-cultural appeal of Li's kung fu skills. Like Li, Chou is also known for the Chinese elements in his work, using the Chinese string instrument erhu.
