Mainland banks to provide loans for small, medium-sized Taiwan enterprises
2006-07-07 00:36:16 Xinhua English

BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- A mainland official on Friday said the Chinese government is encouraging its commercial banks to provide credits to small and medium-sized Taiwan enterprises which run businesses on the mainland.

Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), released the information when meeting with a Kuomingtang cross-Straits finance promotion delegation, led by Tseng Yung-Chuan, director of the Kuomintang's "central policy committee".

Chen said the cross-Straits exchange and cooperation in financial fields is conducive to the common development of the economies of both sides of the Straits. The mainland government has always paid great attention to satisfying the financial needs of the Taiwan enterprises which run businesses on mainland, he added.

In the early 1990s, the mainland government poured three billion yuan into the Taiwan-invested enterprises. At the same time, the mainland's commercial banks also gave preferential policies for the financing of Taiwan-invested enterprises.

The mainland's A-share market has opened to the Taiwan-invested enterprises for financing.

In a bid to further solve the financing problems for Taiwan-invested enterprises, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council endorsed an agreement last September with the China Development Bank for providing 30 billion yuan of loans to Taiwan-invested enterprises.

Chen said "we will further enhance the exchange and communication with Kuomintang, as well as any other parties and individuals who support the cross-Straits development. And we will make concrete efforts to safeguard the interests of Taiwan compatriots and promote the Taiwan compatriots' businesses on the mainland".

He said the mainland side has made full preparations for organizing mainland tourists to visit Taiwan. "We hoped the Taiwan authorities can take a practical and active attitude to opening its tourism market to mainlanders". Enditem
