TAIPEI, July 7 (AP) -- A former senior aide to Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian was indicted on Friday for taking bribes and making profits from insider trading, the prosecutor's office said.

Prosecutor Lin Pang-liang said he is demanding a 12-year jail term for Chen Che-nan for crimes he committed between 2000 and 2003 when he was deputy secretary-general of the Presidential Office.

Chen, who is not related to the president, has denied the charges against him.
