Strong earthquake hits Taiwan

TAIPEI, July 28 (AP) -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan Friday, rocking buildings in the capital Taipei for almost a minute, but no damage or casualties were immediately reported, the Central Weather Bureau said.

The quake's epicenter was located 82 kilometers (51 miles) east of the Taiwanese port of Nanao, the bureau said. The harbor town lies 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Taipei.
