TAIPEI, Oct 16 (AP) -- Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. reported an unaudited third-quarter net profit of 7.79 billion New Taiwan dollars Monday (US$249 million; €195 million), a record high for any quarter. Taiwan's largest memory chip maker by revenue had a net profit of NT$2.27 billion in the July-September period of 2005. The company didn't elaborate on its results, which it disclosed at an investor conference. The result was higher than the average forecast of NT$5.76 billion in a Dow Jones Newswires poll of four analysts. Earlier this month, the company said its revenue in the third quarter was NT$25.53 billion, also a record for any quarter. The third-quarter revenue figure was up 92 percent from NT$13.32 billion a year earlier, and was 36 percent higher than its second-quarter revenue of NT$18.79 billion.
