Lee's Japan visit draws criticism

SHANGHAI, Jun 1 -- CHINA yesterday expressed its strong displeasure over the Japanese government's decision to allow Lee Teng-hui to visit Japan, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said.

"The purpose of Lee Teng-hui's tour is to create fanfare for 'Taiwan independence' and sabotage China-Japan relations, and we have expressed our strong displeasure to the Japanese government over its decision to allow this visit," Jiang said.
