HONG KONG, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A personalized vehicle registration mark named after late kungfu legend Bruce Lee fetched 40,000 Hong Kong dollars (5,115 U.S. dollars) at an auction in Hong Kong on Saturday. The man who successfully bade for the personalized registration mark, surnamed Huang, said he had been a fan of Bruce Lee since childhood and that he had expected the car plate to fetch as much as a million HK dollars (127,877 U.S. dollars). "Bruce Lee is the pride of all Chinese," he said. Huang said he planned to consult Bruce Lee's wife on what to dowith the plate and one of the options was to give it to Hong Kong for it to be displayed at the Avenue of Stars, where many local movie stars had put down their hand prints. Under the Personalized Vehicle Registration Mark Scheme introduced by the Hong Kong government, vehicle owners can choose their preferred vehicle registration marks, apply to the Transport Department and use it upon approval following a bidding exercise. Another personalized registration mark, WTF, fetched 320,000 HK dollars, the highest at the auction so far. Some vehicle plates bearing the names of Hong Kong celebrities had been sold in the past.
