HONG KONG, Aug 20 (AP) -- The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz was scheduled to be in Hong Kong Monday for a port call, the local U.S. Consulate General said.

The consulate general issued a statement inviting journalists to visit the ship Monday but did not give details about the duration of its port call or its previous or next destinations.

A spokesman at the consulate general did not immediately return a reporter's call seeking details on the USS Nimitz' itinerary.

San Diego-based USS Nimitz was scheduled to take part in a military exercise off the coast of Guam starting Aug. 7.
