MACAO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Macao Chamber of Commerce Friday hosted a cocktail reception to mark the 58th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Ma Iao Lei, president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, said while delivering the toast speech that the National Day celebrations are to boost Macao residents' sense of pride and responsibility.

He said the Chamber is to support the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in its effort to run the region under the guidance of the Basic Law.

The Chamber, he said, will strive to help achieve a sound political and social stability as well as an economic take-off in the region.

Those present at the party included Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the MSAR, Bai Zhijian, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the MSAR, and Wan Yongxiang, commissioner of the Foreign Ministry in the MSAR.

Some 300 representatives of all walks of social life attended the reception.
