Macao to host int'l environmental cooperation forum

MACAO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The 2008 Macao International Environmental Cooperation Forum and Exhibition will be held here later this month, where government representatives and world environmental experts will discuss the solutions to clean energy and environmental protection under a global background.

With the slogan of "Thinking Green, Going Clean and Living Cool", the event was co-organized by the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government and provincial and regional governments of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, and supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, a statement released by the SAR government's Information Bureau said Monday.

The event, lasting from April 23 to 25, will be attended by visiting delegations from provinces and regions of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, namely, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hong Kong, and international representatives of governments, industries, financial institutions, NGOs and civil society.

A session of the forum will be devoted to "international cooperation" which will include presentations from government officials representing the European Union, provincial and regional governments from the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, Hong Kong and Macao SARs.

They will address sustainability issues, and highlight environmental developments, strategic plans and their existing market need, which are aimed to enhance the development for a framework for future sustainability goals and new partnerships among nations worldwide, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the accompanying exhibition will showcase the latest advances in environmental technology, state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies, and will promote smart partnership between providers and end-users, with a view to supporting long-term conversion towards the green economy, the SAR government said in the statement.
