Chinese vice president arrives in HK on inspection tour

HONG KONG, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived at the Hong Kong Lok Ma Chau cross-boundary checkpoint from Shenzhen here Sunday morning, starting a three-day inspection tour of the city.

Upon his arrival, Xi was greeted by Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Chief Executive Donald Tsang and principal officials of the HKSAR government.

It was Xi's first visit to Hong Kong since he assumed the office of Chinese Vice President in March 2008.

Xi is scheduled to inspect the equestrian events venues for the2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics to get to know Hong Kong's preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The vice president will also make an inspection tour of other places in Hong Kong.
