SINGAPORE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Singapore on Friday welcomed the successful conclusion of the first-ever cross-Straits talks held in Taiwan and the four agreements signed between the two sides.

The just-concluded talks between Chen Yunlin, president of the Chinese mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) mark the "continuation of dialogue and cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits," a Singapore Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Singapore is encouraged by the decision of both sides to continue their efforts to improve cross-Straits relations to achieve win-win benefits for their people, and this is good for regional stability, the spokesman added.

Chen arrived back in Beijing on Friday after concluding his five-day historic visit to Taiwan. During his stay in Taiwan, Chen held talks with Chiang, and the two signed four agreements on direct shipping, air transport, postal services and food safety.
