HK social assistance caseload up 0.05% in August

HONG KONG, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in Hong Kong recorded an increase of 0.05 percent in August over July, the Social Welfare Department of the local government announced on Wednesday.

Total CSSA caseload at the end of August stood at 290,242, which was 138 more than that in July, involving a total of 488,073 recipients.

Analyzed by case nature, unemployment cases showed an increase of 0.2 percent to 34,266; single parent cases registered a month- to-month decrease of 0.2 percent to 36,890; low earning cases fell 0.2 percent to 15,856.

Besides, the department will make a one-off grant of 1,000 HK dollars (about 129.17 U.S. dollars) for education-related expenses to eligible students on Sept. 30.
