HONG KONG, Sept 6 (AP) -- Hong Kong Disneyland said Tuesday it is considering extending opening hours and adding more shows as the territory's Financial Secretary expressed concern about the large crowds and long lines when the park is operating at its capacity.

"The queues are really long," when the park is filled to its capacity of 30,000 people, Financial Secretary Henry Tang said late Monday.

"We don't want tourists to think it's a downer to have to queue up for so long," Tang said.

The park, a joint venture between the Hong Kong government and The Walt Disney Co., officially opens Monday, Sept. 12, but it has already been receiving guests on a number of rehearsal days.

The maximum 30,000 people were invited Sunday and television footage showed long lines both inside and outside the park amid rainy weather.

Hong Kong Disneyland spokeswoman Esther Wong said Tuesday park officials are considering opening the park for longer and adding more performances.

"We hope to give the guests a better experience," she said.

The park has been open from 10 a.m. to up to 9 p.m. during the rehearsal days.

Wong said the park only expects up to 40 "very busy" days a year. Hong Kong Disneyland is expected to draw 5.6 million people in its first year of operation, with mainland Chinese tourists accounting for about a third of that number.

Tang said the maximum number of people were allowed in Sunday to test the park. He said park officials have already learned from the rehearsal days, adding more than 600 seats and 20 food stands in the park.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Immigration Department said it will dispatch an additional 187 staff to border checkpoints to handle the expected influx of visitors from China.
