US warns Actra-RX may be dangerous
2004-11-11 00:19:23 XinhuaEnglish
BEIJING, Nov. 11(Xinhuanet)-- US drug regulators are warning people not to buy or consume Actra-Rx or Yilishen, a Chinese product for improving men's sexual performance, because of potential risks.

The US Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, says the products contain an active prescription-strength drug ingredient called sildenafil.

An interaction between sildenafil and certain prescription drugs may cause a significant lowering of blood pressure to an unsafe level.

The products were promoted and offered for sale on web sites as"dietary supplements" for treating erectile dysfunction.

Doctors say men experiencing sexual dysfunction should seek guidance from doctors before purchasing these products.

Consumers can still buy Yilishen in China because it is classified as"dietary supplements" rather than a drugs.

No comment is available yet from Yilishen producer and the Ministry of Health.
