HONG KONG, June 4 (Xinhua) -- A research team in Taiwan's central city of Taichung released on Sunday its newly made solar power system "Chang Tien," which can utilize both light and heat emitted by the sun, according to a report reaching here from Taipei. Head of the team Wu I-lung told the local press that the current solar power systems can only convert light to energy, while heat is left unused. He said, however, the new system is able to react both to heat and light, and therefore to generate more power than conventional systems. Wu said the name "Chang Tien" in Chinese means "ever-lasting solar energy," a reference to the system's new feature. Wu noted the new system can not only apply to low-voltage everyday appliances such as radios, mobile phones and emergency lighting systems, but can also to systems that require greater amounts of energy such as ventilation, uninterruptible power supply and air conditioning.
