China to develop deep space exploration in 5 years

BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior space official said here Wednesday that in the coming five years, China will actively formulate its deep space exploration planning with lunar exploration and Martian exploration as the principal line and participate in international cooperation in the field.

Sun Laiyan, administrator of the China National Space Administration, said at the 36th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research, China is going to conduct research on the distribution and utilization of the lunar resources, and terrestrial planetary science, particularly the earth-moon system science, as well as to provide scientific basis and countermeasures for supporting mankind's sustainable survival and development on earth.

The key space scientific subjects for Chinese scientists in the coming five years also include space astronomy and solar physics, space physics and solar system exploration, micro-gravity sciences and space life science. Enditem
