BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A survey in UK unveiled that using text message or email has became the most popular way to break up with lovers, according to media reports Monday.

The survey showed that one in seven people have their relationship end via text, email or instant messaging.

"The results show one per cent of the population would use a social networking site to dump a partner. It would be interesting to see how this changes as sites such as Facebook and MySpace become more apparent in our everyday lives," said Rob Barnes from moneysupermarket.com which carried out the survey.

"Most of us send emails and texts everyday, so it comes as no surprise they are now being used to ditch someone, however distasteful this is," he also said.

Like Britney Spear, more and more people choose to hide behind digital technology for splitting up.

The hi-tech way might appear heartless and gutless, but it contrasts with the 4 percent who simply drop all communication with their lovers without notice.
