A SHANGHAI university announced today they has found a solution to get rid of invading Smooth Cord-grass, which is rampant growing and spreading in some areas of the city, especially in the east end of Chongming Island.
The Municipal Government is going to launch a campaign next year to stop the growth of the black-listed plant by adapting the new technology invented by the East China Normal University.
Workers should remove its parts above ground in summer and introduce water to emerge the area where the plant grows.
Being submerged by the water, the root of the plant will go rotten.
Having its growing speed three or four times faster than weed, it was one of the 16 harmful invading plants on the country's environmental watchdog's blacklist.
