HUANGHE STATION, Arctic, March 7 (Xinhua) -- An expedition team of Chinese college students Friday afternoon arrived at the Chinese Arctic Huanghe Station at Ny-Alesund in Norway's Svalbard archipelago.

Zhang Beichan, a researcher with the Chinese Polar Research Institute, who has stayed at Huanghe Station for over two months during the winter, received them with a warm welcome.

The 10 students from eight universities across China, including a girl from Hong Kong, are expected to conduct research and experiments on biology, astronomy, physics, geography and climate under the guidance of polar experts in the expedition team.

Zhang said their arrival has doubled the population in the so-called Arctic village, which is home to Chinese, Norwegian, Swedish, French, Dutch, South Korean and Japanese stations.

The team might be able to observe the first sunrise at Ny-Alesund Saturday after long polar nights if the weather is good, Zhang said.
