Japan high-tech fair opens featuring IT technology used by automakers

TOKYO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Japan's biggest high-tech exhibition opened Tuesday, featuring high-tech functions adopted by electric vehicles, such as motion sensors, voice recognition and behavior prediction systems etc.

Among automakers, Nissan Motor Co. is displaying a two-seat model vehicle which can drive automatically by using a smartphone while Toyota participated the event for the first time and has brought its "Smart Insect" single-passenger, compact electric vehicle equipped by voice recognition and behavior prediction systems.

Electronics makers are showcasing ultra high-definition liquid crystal display TVs, with Sony Corp. displays a new 84-inch LCD panel TV to be launched in November and is four times finer then currently existing high-definition technology.

A total of 624 companies and groups, including 161 from overseas, have signed up for the show, organizers said.

The five-day annual exhibition is held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo. The event has been held every year since 2000.

The show will open to the public for free on the last day, said organizers.
