A day the victims of the Bosnian war waited "far too long" for - the appearance of Radovan Karadzic in the dock of a U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague.
The former Bosnian Serb leader - shorn of the bushy beard and long hair he grew while on the run for 11 years - listened impassively as the charges were read out by the judge.

The alleged crimes include the massacre of thousands of Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica and the siege of Sarajevo, which killed more than 10,000 civilians.

Speaking in a firm voice, Karadzic told the court he'd decided to represent himself throughout the trial - though he said he wouldn't be alone.

But the 63-year-old refused to enter a plea, saying he wanted more time to study genocide charges against him after the prosecution said it wanted to amend the indictment.
He now has 30 days to enter a plea - his next court appearance is set for August 29th.
