INTRO: The Manchester United and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or trophy after inspiring the English club to the Champions League and Premier League double this year.

He's been England's Footballer of the Year for the past two years but now Cristiano Ronaldo is officially the best in Europe.

He was the overwhelming favourite with 77 of them placing him in the number one spot.
Manchester United won the Champions League and Premier League this year and 42 of the club's goals were scored by the 23-year-old.
He received the coveted Ballon d'Or trophy - previously known as the European Footballer of the Year award - at a ceremony in Paris.
Afterwards he said he had no immediate plans to leave the club despite pre-season speculation about a move to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is the fourth Manchester United player to win the title.
He beat Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who were second and third.
