Madonna has won a round against the British press. The pop star won a judgment against a tabloid that she accused of breaching her privacy and copyright by publishing pictures of her 2000 wedding. Madonna, who says the pictures were stolen by an interior decorator from her home in Beverly Hills, California, is seeking damages in excess of 5 million pounds (7.5 million dollars) from the publishers of the Mail on Sunday newspaper. The judge entered a judgment in her favor but deferred a decision on compensation until the new year.
Heath Ledger's family paid a teary tribute to the late actor as they accepted a top Australian film industry award on his behalf. Ledger was posthumously given the Australian Film Institute's international award for best actor for his role as the Joker in "The Dark Knight." Ledger's performance in the Batman blockbuster is regarded as having a solid chance for a posthumous Academy Award for best supporting actor.
British singer Leona Lewis stormed straight to the top of the UK pop singles charts, taking the number one slot with her latest single "Run." The singer's new hit, which was not originally intended to come out as a single, sold 133,591 copies, more than double the previous mark. Lewis' success is also the fastest selling digital track.
Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the record-breaking teen drama "Twilight," will now NOT be directing the sequel, "New Moon." according to reports, the US film-maker felt that she needed more time to work on the film and could not commit to a late 2009-early 2010 release date. Summit Entertainment said it had "a mandate" to release the next installment "in a timely fashion".
