The worst hit area, Tianjin, a city neighbouring Beijing with a population of 10 million, saw all of its flights cancelled at Tianjin Binhai International Airport. The extreme snowstorm has also cut off highways and railways in and out of the city.
The national weather forecast said temperatures will fall further with severe snowfall continuing to hit parts of central, eastern and southern China over the next two days.
