Injured French solo yachtsman Yann Elies is rescued by an Australian frigate in the Indian Ocean after fracturing his leg in a round-the-world yacht race.
Elies, a 34-year-old Breton, was competing in the Vendee Globe round-the-world solo race aboard his yacht, the 'Generali', when a large wave struck his boat late on Thursday (December 18) while he was changing sails. He was thrown to the deck, breaking his left femur and several ribs.
Australia's defence ministry said the frigate 'Arunta' found Elies aboard his 60-foot yacht 'Generali' late on Saturday, about 850 miles from Australia's west coast.
