Kissing ban hits rail travellers

The signs might look jolly, but the message is serious........kiss in the wrong part of the station and you'll be in trouble.

Council chiefs have banned couples from puckering up at Warrington Bank Quay Station in the north of England.

They say the plan will ease congestion at the station and its busy taxi rank.

SOUNDBITE (English) COLIN DANIELS, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF WARRINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, SAYING

"Following all the improvement work here at the station we thought, perhaps this is the time to put up the kissing and non-kissing zone signs. We do have a problem out here because of a congested area and it's perhaps one way of trying to keep the traffic moving."

Those wishing to smooch will be directed to a designated 'kissing zone'.

The plan has certainly set tongues wagging.

SOUNDBITE (English) VOX POP,SAYING

"It's almost the daftest thing I've ever heard of. Why tell people that they can't kiss?"

SOUNDBITE (English) VOX POP,SAYING

"I think it's a bit odd and very silly really. You should kiss where you want to kiss."

Station bosses insist they won't be enforcing the zones too rigidly.

Which is just as well.....because some passengers are already giving the new law the kiss-off.
