Malaysia hosts a competition for breeders with the best miniature chicken.

This chicken may be small, but it could be worth more than 5,000 U.S dollars.

It's a Malaysian Serama, a miniature chicken breed.

Breeders from all over the country are bringing their birds to Kuala Lumpur, hoping to win cash prizes.

Ahmad Mohammed heads the competition.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF THE MALAYSIAN SERAMA CORPORATION AHMAD MOHAMMED SAYING:

"Even when they walk also is almost like a soldier walking, a warrior walking and they like to do the cat-walk, it looks funny but then its very unique."

The pint sized birds are used in some villages to treat asthma.

They're also considered an aphrodisiac.

(SOUNDBITE) (English)VETERINARY STUDENT, NESA SUBRAMANIAM, SAYING:

"I like it, the colour and then how it stands, how it present itself, is something, very egoistic bird but it looks very cute."

In recent years there had been concerns over the breed's future, as thousands were culled to prevent bird-flu.

Around 25,000 small chickens are being bred internationally with mini-chicken clubs in Europe and the U.S
