A day of mourning in Herat, Afghanistan.

Hundreds of international troops observed a moment of silence to commemorate the death of two Italian colleagues who died in an attack involving an improvised explosive device in western Afghanistan.

Soldiers wept during the memorial ceremony to remember the Italians, who served at a base at western Herat airport.

After the ceremony, fellow soldiers carried the bodies onto an airplane waiting to fly them home to Italy.
