Pope decries gay marriage

Pope Benedict in Barcelona. The Holy father enters La Sagrada Familia, both to consecrate Barcelona's iconic church and to decry Spain's legalization of gay marriage.

SOUNDBITE: Pope Benedict, saying (Spanish)

"The generous, indissoluble love of a man and a woman is the effective context and the foundation of human life in its gestation in the birth and growth and its natural end."

Spain's legalization of abortion and gay marriage have stoked tensions with the Vatican, although the government downplayed friction during the visit.

Now that it has been blessed by the Pope, regular Mass will be celebrated in the building.

The Pope said he will return to Spain in August 2011 for a World's Youth meeting.
