Actor Nicolas Cage knights himself in the new medieval action flick "Season of the Witch."
The 46-year-old Oscar winner hit the red carpet in New York to promote his new film -- a role he has waited three decades to play.

"Plus, I've been playing a knight ever since I was a small child in the backyard. I don't know why it took this long for me to play a knight on film, but it did and now I've done it and I'm relieved."
The supernatural thriller takes place in 14th century Europe where Cage and co-star Ron Perlman capture a witch suspected of devastating lands through sorcery.

"He's a hoot to work with. He's very unserious. Except between action and cut and then he's as serious as a heart attack and really really loves being an actor."
British newcomer Claire Foy, who plays the witch, revealed the spell she cast over the film's leading man.

"It's quite a thing to have to go out there and intimidate Nicolas Cage, but hopefully I did it convincingly. I gave him a run for his money."
The picture has critics wondering if it will be a hit or miss for the actor -- who in his personal life reportedly owes the government millions of dollars in unpaid taxes.
The movie's release date coincides with Cage's 47th birthday.

"This has never happened to me before. I don't know. It's up to the movie Gods. We'll see what kind of a birthday present it is, but I did have to say it was, kind of, had a bit of a ring to it when they told me that."
"Season of the Witch" opens in British and U.S. theaters on January 7.
