George Clooney contracted malaria during a trip to Sudan earlier this month, but is now fully cured, according to a spokesman for the Oscar-winning actor.
A frequent visitor to the war-torn nation, Clooney was helping draw attention to a historic referendum on independence for residents of the mainly Christian south.
According to a statement released by his publicist, it was Clooney's second bout with the disease. It quoted him as saying, "This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad ten days instead of a death sentence."
News of Clooney's illness first broke in a Tweet from CNN chat show host Piers Morgan, who will have Clooney as a guest on his show on Friday, January 21.
