Spectacular sights from the International Space Station

These are the astonishing images taken from space that capture the moon as it eases through the clouds above the Earth's night sky.

The stunning International Space Station footage, taken in one-frame-per-second time lapse, also shows our planet illuminated by the blues, greens and reds of the dazzling Northern Lights.

It comes as scientists at NASA have predicted that this year the Lights - also known as the Aurora Borealis - will be at their brightest and most intense for 50 years after a spate of solar storms.
