Pakistan's Bhutto dies in blast

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto died Thursday from her injuries sustained in an explosion at her election rally near the capital Islamabad, local media reported.

Bhutto, 54, died in a hospital after a suspected suicide rocked her election rally at the Liaquat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, some 30km south from Islamabad.

The latest reports from the state-run PTV said at least ten people were killed in the blast.

However, a private TV, ARJ, reported that at least 20 were killed and another 42 were injured in the blast.

The powerful explosion occurred shortly after Bhutto, leader o fthe Pakistan People's Party left the rally at the Liaquat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, some 30 km south from Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least four supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were killed Thursday when unidentified gunmen fired at his party's procession in the outskirts of Islamabad, local press reports said.

Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), was due to address election rallies in the eastern Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, some 30 kms south from Islamabad.
