WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. defense department headquarters was partially evacuated on Friday after heavy smoke was seen from a main concourse of the Pentagon.

A Pentagon spokesperson told reporters that the smoke came out from a mechanical room on the fifth floor, but there was no fire up.

"It's all contained. It's under control, but they haven't issued an all-clear yet," the spokesperson said, adding no injuries were reported.

However, the partial evacuation order has not released and a Metro station entrance nearby was also closed.

The Pentagon is located in Virginia state, which has been under construction for years.
