Chinese share prices ended Wednesday morning trade mixed with Shanghai lower amid cautious sentiment ahead of first quarter economic data due next week, dealers said.
They said investors were keen to consolidate after three days of gains, with banks falling amid worries over possible new monetary tightening measures following the release of economic data next week.
"Investors were cautious ahead of key economic indicators next week," said Qian Xiangjing, an analyst at Citic Kinton Securities.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, was down 54.20 points or 1.50 percent to 3,558.34.
The Shanghai A-share Index fell 57.18 points or 1.51 percent to 3,733.52 points, while the Shenzhen A-share rose 3.35 points or 0.29 percent at 1,145.79.
