U.S. delegation continues nuclear talks with DPRK officials

PYONGYANG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The visiting U.S. delegation continued nuclear talks with officials of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday.

The close-door meeting, held in Pyongyang's Koryo Hotel, came into the second day.

Sung Kim, head of the U.S. team, declined to give any details of the talks after closing this afternoon's meeting.

The U.S. delegation will leave for Seoul on Thursday by land just like they entered the DPRK on Tuesday.

Kim said he was not sure if they will continue talks with the DPRK officials for these two days, said Kim.

They arrived here after driving across the heavily fortified inter-Korean border on Tuesday for discussions over the nuclear declaration of the DPRK and how to verify it.

Upon his arrival at Seoul, Kim had told reporters that he hoped to have a very detailed discussion on all aspects of the declaration, Reuters reported Tuesday.

International talks on ending the DPRK's nuclear activities had been stalled for months after Pyongyang missed a December deadline to give a declaration of its nuclear programs as it promised to do.

Some progress over the declaration had been made since the U.S. top nuclear negotiator Christopher Hill and his counterpart Kim Gye Gwan held talks on April 8 in Singapore.
