SEOUL, June 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bakon Friday announced that he is replacing several of his top advisers in the wake of public outrage over U.S. beef deal.
Lee would replace his chief of staff and seven senior secretaries, the office of Lee Myung-bak said in a statement.
The replacement followed weeks of mass anti-government demonstrations over the beef issue, concerning mad cow disease.
Lee, who has seen his approval rating plunge to a percentage inthe low 20s, pledged in a nationally televised news conference Thursday that he would not allow imports of U.S. beef from cattle over 30 months old.
