WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- In a surprising move, U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain has chosen 44-year-old, not-well-known Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, his campaign aides have confirmed to U.S. media Friday.
McCain is expected to formally introduce his choice of a running mate at a big rally around 1600 GMT Friday in Dayton, Ohio.
The field of potential running mates had been narrowed as Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, used to be seen to a leading contender for the job, said he will not be the GOP's vice presidential nominee.
Meanwhile, Thursday night's arrival of a private jet from Alaska at the Middleton, Ohio, airport, raised speculation that Palin would be McCain's pick.
