MANAGUA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) reported on Thursday that since the early hours of the day, they have registered several earthquakes apparently caused by local geological faults.
The first earthquake was 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale, which was felt at 06:31 a.m. (1231 GMT). Its epicenter was located near the Fonseca Gulf in the Pacific Ocean at the depth of 50.7 km.
The last shake of a series of small earthquakes registered was of 3.6 degrees and occurred at 09:12 a.m. (1512 GMT), 129.7 km west to Managua, in front of the Poneloya resort, in the littoral of the Nicaraguan Pacific.
Meanwhile, another quake measuring 4.6 degrees on the Richter scale on Thursday shook the southeast coast of El Salvador, causing no material damages or victims, the National Services of Territorial Studies (SNET) said.
The tremor occurred at 6:31 a.m. (1231 GMT) on Thursday in San Miguel province, which is the third earthquake rattling El Salvador in two consecutive days.
On Wednesday, two 4.5-magnitude quakes struck, causing no casualties or material damage.
Ineter also reported on Wednesday a small earthquake in Honduras, which did not cause damages.
In Costa Rica, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake was registered on Thursday, followed by several aftershocks.
