BANGKOK, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Five Thai police were injured on Tuesday morning after suspected militants detonated a roadside bomb in Thailand's restive southernmost province of Pattani, local media reported.
The bomb attack targeted a vehicle carrying the police patrolling to provide security for teachers to travel to school inKhok Pho district of Pattani, the website by Thai-language newspaper Thai Rath reported.
The country's deep South comprises mainly three southernmost provinces -- Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and some parts of Songkla province. Insurgent violence has killed over 3,500 people in the deep South since its resurrection in Jan. 2004.
