WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- As U.S. President Barack Obama paid an unannounced visit to Iraq, a new poll released on Tuesday shows his Iraq plan has broad support at home.
Nearly 70 percent of Americans approve of his plan to remove most troops in Iraq by next August while keeping 35,000 to 50,000 troops there after that, according to the CNN survey.
Of the 30 percent who oppose the plan, 19 percent want all troops removed as soon as possible while 11 percent say all troops should stay indefinitely.
The survey also showed 63 percent of Americans oppose the Iraq war while 35 percent approve.
The poll was conducted April 3-5 among 1,023 adult Americans.
