LOS ANGELES, April 8 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and three others critically injured after being shot overnight by an elderly gunman at a Korean religious retreat about 130 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles, authorities said on Wednesday.
The suspect, who was subdued after he killed one woman and went on to shoot others on Tuesday evening, was among the injured and hospitalized, according to police.
Police identified the gunman involved in the fatal shooting at the Christian retreat camp run by a Korean religious group as 69-year-old John Chong, a resident of the retreat.
It was still unclear what was the motive for the shooting.
Residents of the sprawling retreat camp in a mountainous area said John Chong is known as "Uncle" in the camp. The camp provides food and aid to the homeless, who also live on the property.
