STOCKHOLM, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Tuesday urged the Afghan re-elected president Hamid Karzai to forma government which can promoting national unity.
"A credible and competent government, promoting national unity, must now be formed without delay," Sweden, which currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, said in a statement.
The new government should swiftly develop a comprehensive agenda on the challenges facing the nation, especially on governance, the fight against corruption and security, said the statement.
EU is ready to engage early and substantially with the new government, on the basis of its recently adopted action plan, it added.
The Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced Monday that incumbent President Hamid Karzai had won the election after his main challenger, Abdullah Abdullah, withdrew from the run-off set for Nov. 7.
