QUITO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The coming summit of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) will focus on coordinating relief efforts in Haiti, the Ecuadorian foreign minister said on Wednesday.
"We want the aid that Haiti is receiving to be useful for its citizens," said Ricardo Patino, whose country currently holds the Unasur chair.
The summit, which is to be held on Feb. 9, will also discuss how to strengthen Haiti's government institutions, Patino said.
"Many officers died, and many information does not exist," said the minister.
Efforts should be done "to help directly with the government of that country," Patino said.
The presidents of Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador will attend the summit, according to Patino.
Unasur groups Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador.
