ISTANBUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Turkey expected Israel to apologize for its deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, a high- ranking government official said here Thursday in a statement.

The statement was made by Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis during the inauguration of Swedish Consulate General in Istanbul.

When responding to a question, Bagis said, "Turkey will determine its policy in accordance with the attitude of Israel from now on. We expect Israel to apologize. The issue should be inquired under auspices of the UN, EU and other international organizations."

Israeli navy commandos early Monday morning raided the international aid flotilla and clashed with activists on one of the ships. Nine civilians were killed and dozens were injured in the incident.
