PYONGYANG, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un has inspected a navy unit in the country's western sea, the official KCNA news agency reported Saturday.

Kim went aboard Submarine Chaser No. 202 to inspected Navy Unit 123 of the Korean People's Army, which he heads, said the KCNA, without giving a specific date of the inspection.

Kim learned about the naval unit's arms and equipment and the servicemen's combat preparedness.

Kim said he was greatly satisfied that all the officers and soldiers have intensified training to be combat ready and have been trained to be capable of firmly defending the territorial waters of the country.

On Cho Islet, Kim climbed to the top of a steep hill to inspect a forward command post, where he heard reports and asked about forces and equipment of the enemy, the operational tactics, assignment of combat duties, and the density of firing, according to the KCNA.

"Saying that Cho Islet is a gate to the West Sea and Pyongyang is behind the islet, he instructed the service personnel of the defense unit to consolidate the combat positions as firm as a rock," the KCNA said.

"He instructed the service personnel to step up combat preparations, be always aware that their positions allow no retreat and there is no place to retreat even an inch there, and thus mercilessly wipe out the aggressors should they come in attack," the news agency said.
