KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 28 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were injured in militant attack on the provincial governor office building in southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Saturday morning, police said.
"Some gunmen broke into the governor office building at about 11:20 a.m. local time and engaged with security forces inside the compound," a police officer told Xinhua.
He said at least two people were injured as a suicide bomber was shot dead by police and his explosive was detonated.
"The Kandahar provincial governor Tooryali Wessa and other officials are safe and sound," he said.
The area is cordoned off by police and army commandos.
Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack.
